Unity Bank Fuels Youth Empowerment Through Digital Innovation: A New Era for Nigeria’s Next Generation

Unity Bank Plc recently demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment and technological innovation by hosting a high-impact webinar focused on the role of digital technology in sustainable development. The event, which drew participants from across Nigeria, featured leaders from the Telecommunications, Media, and Technology (TMT) ecosystem, including start-ups, fintech players, and content creators.

The webinar featured insights from two prominent figures in the Nigerian technology industry: Mr. Gbolahan Salami, Senior Vice President of Growth, Product, and Strategy at WakaNow, and Mr. Micheal Ogundare, CEO and Co-founder of Crop2Cash. Both speakers shared valuable perspectives on how digital technology can empower the next generation and promote inclusive growth.

Commenting on the event, Unity Bank’s Head of Strategy and Innovation, Mr. Ibukun Coker, emphasized the bank’s dedication to supporting youth-driven technological advancement. He highlighted that Unity Bank offers youth-friendly products and business grants through initiatives like the Corpreneurship Challenge program, which focus on Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the technology sector. Coker stated:

“Empowering the youth through digital technology is key to unlocking sustainable development in Nigeria. At Unity Bank, we are committed to driving initiatives that bridge the digital divide and equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-evolving economy. This webinar is part of our ongoing effort to support the growth of a digitally inclusive society, ensuring that our youth are well-positioned to harness technology for positive change and economic progress.”

The event allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers, leaving many feeling optimistic about their ability to leverage digital technology for personal and societal advancement.

This webinar aligns with Unity Bank’s broader initiatives to empower youth in the tech industry. Recently, the bank partnered with SkillPaddy for the “Count Her In” tech program, which focuses on empowering over 1,000 female beneficiaries with software engineering training. This initiative, launched as part of International Women’s Day 2024 celebrations, saw 40 young women receiving full sponsorship from Unity Bank, further underscoring the bank’s commitment to bridging talent gaps and promoting gender inclusivity in technology.
