Unity Bank Partners with SkillPaddy to Empower 1000 Women in Tech Programme

Unity Bank Plc has announced a strategic partnership with SkillPaddy for its “Count Her In” tech programme, aiming to empower 1000 female beneficiaries through software engineering training.

The initiative, designed to bridge talent supply gaps and foster inclusivity in the tech industry, will provide comprehensive IT skill development opportunities for participants, with a focus on software development.

As part of the commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024, Unity Bank will fully sponsor 40 young girls in this special training initiative, recognizing the importance of empowering women in traditionally male-dominated fields.

With women representing only 33% of the tech-related workforce globally, the programme aims to boost female participation in the tech industry by delivering impactful training and addressing gender disparity.

Beneficiaries of the programme will receive training in various aspects of software development, along with mentorship and resources essential for their success. Additionally, they will acquire vital life skills such as critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving.

Mrs. Tomi Somefun, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Unity Bank Plc, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with the theme of IWD 2024, #InspireInclusion. She emphasized the bank’s commitment to driving inclusion, equality, and diversity across industries, stating that empowering young women reflects Unity Bank’s dedication to fostering economic empowerment and gender equality.

Mrs. Somefun stated, “Through this programme, we are not only investing in the future of these talented women but also driving innovation and diversity within the tech industry. By providing access to skills training and mentorship, we aim to unlock opportunities and create a more inclusive and thriving digital economy for all.”

This partnership with SkillPaddy follows Unity Bank’s recent collaboration with AltSchool Africa to sponsor female students in acquiring specialist software development skills, demonstrating the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and gender equality.

International Women’s Day serves as a global platform to celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality. This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion, underscores the importance of creating inclusive environments where individuals of all genders feel valued and respected.
