Yuletide: Ebonyi Gov celebrates with the elderly, widows

Rt Hon. Francis Nwifuru the Governor of Ebonyi State, Saturday said his government will continue to prioritise the welfare of the elderly people and widows in the state in line with the People’s Charter of Needs policy of his government.

The Governor spoke at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakalikii,
during Elders and Widows Party organised at his instance.

He maintained his stance on bettering the lots of people especially the elders and widows and other less privileged in the state.

He explained that the essence of the People’s Charter of Needs, is to ensure an effective target mechanism that will eliminate leakages in the course of reaching out to the socio-economically disadvantaged in the society.

“We understand that when we honour our parents, God will honour us”,.

The governor acknowledged the current economic realities and their attendant effects on the widows and elderly and pledged an upward review of their upkeep.

“Let me assure you that I am with you, I am for you and I will work for you”.

“We have taken a review of your allowances which is why we reviewed it upward”, .

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for local Government and chieftaincy, Mr Uchenna Igwe said the Governor is committed to ensuring the welfare of all classes of Ebonyi people, assuring that it will remain an annual event.
